Video of Kevin

So this is a new venture, posting some video footage of Kevin. Take a look and imagine trying to walk on your tip-toes like this... painful? difficult? So we ask why is he not receiving any treatment for his Achilles tendons? Is it because he doesn't have the "mental capacity" (this is a direct quote!) to walk or transfer or is it perhaps because no money is forthcoming from the State to pay for hospital treatment since there is no proof that a third party was involved in Kevin's accident? In your opinion, does this video demonstrate the former? If the latter, is that a good enough reason to deprive a man of the independence of which he may be capable, thereby impeding his quality of life, not to mention making the task of his carers more difficult? You decide!

Hi Alison

I'm aware of only a little of the incredible energy and comitment you have put into Kevins care and rehab. If anyone deserves a bit of a lift up this Christmas, it's you. I hope that your efforts are recognised and rewarded, and you get the help for Kevin that you still need.

All the best to you and your family in the forthcoming year/s.

It's appalling that in this day and age Kevin is being left in a state in which he has to tip-toe painfully around. I know you do everything you can, Alison, and I know how hard Kevin works, but the neglectful attitude of those who could have made the decisions that would have prevented Kevin's tendons reaching this state is no less than criminal! Is Western Australia actually a Third World state? Or does it actually have the money and the means to help Kevin and others like him?

Dear Alison,

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that with the right treatment; i.e. botox, splints, stretching, gait training etc. Kev would be able to walk. It may take months of hard work, but as a mother of a son who was told would never walk again, and is now RUNNING, every bead of sweat, every grimace of pain, is worth it! Never give up the good fight - you will get there!

Kevin, Alison,

It’s great to hear about your progress. We know how much hard work it is! There was a documentary released recently on Trevor’s progress by CTV which has touched so many people. A doctor even called and wanted to give Trevor a second opinion about operating on him to walk. It’s heartwarming and inspiring for us to hear that Kev has the ability to walk. Keep up the great work!

I am ashamed to be an Aussie after reading this!! Shame on the hospital systems that can't see that Kevin NEEDS intervention as he's doing so well on his own. Imagine how well he'd be walking with professional help? Thank goodness for a loving and committed wife.

Dear Kevin

I have read this blog from time to time, as Alison sends updates. I hope she can read this to you.

It seems that you know exactly what has happened, but your body has let you down, in that it doesn't allow you to express, talk and move as you so desperately want.

It has been a very long haul for you and I'm sure the irony is not lost on you that you were once the carer of others in similar circumstances.

I can only try to understand how angry and hurt you are by this ordeal. Without being able to express yourself clearly, it would be so difficult not to feel complete rage at times.

Perhaps you have thought about what it would be like to tell everyone how you felt during your recovery and what thoughts you had. When you come out of this, Kevin, you will be able to tell us all. In doing that, you will help other people on similar journeys. You will be able to give their families and doctors an insight that few people have ever had.

I've no doubt you will come through and I can't wait to meet you when you do. You are an inspiration to us all. I know that you will go on to inspire us more and more.

It will be a wonderful day when you can unlock some of the mystery that surrounds the minds and bodies of people who have had them broken. You are well on the way to fixing yours - keep going, Kevin.

I cannot believe after all this time that the " Professionals" have not pushed hard for Kevin to receive the treatment he needs to progress him forward to returning to being the productive and caring man that we know. In my opinion if a thorough and expedient investigation had been followed through by the WA crash investigation team, Kevin and his family may not find themselves in this situation of not being able to receive the kind of rehabilitation that any person in society should be entitled to post crash and the subsequent TBI. When are the people in office going to be an advocate for people such as Kevin and have the courage to push for change??

Dear Alison,
Kerry informed me about Kevin's and your long battle from the very beginning. You went into unknown with such determination, strength and love. Congratulation for amazing achievement so far. You are also a good example and encouragement to people in similar situations. I have no doubt that you deserve professional support and funding that will make Kevin's progress faster.
Hoping that in 2009 Kevin and you will get adequate help,
Best wishes,
